Eco resilient flooring (ERF), which was introduced in the Singapore flooring market in 2014, is an improvement and strong substitute to existing clickable resilient flooring products due to its durability as well as certified eco friendly properties. Over the years, Eco resilient flooring (ERF) has benefited residential homes and commercial properties owners in many ways. Below are the 8 benefits of Eco Resilient Flooring (ERF).

Certified Eco Friendly Resilient Flooring

As eco resilient flooring is certified eco friendly, it is therefore a highly recommended flooring product for home owners today. (ERF – White Sawn Design)

Eco resilient flooring (ERF), is certified eco friendly. It has the Singapore Green Label certification which requires stringent standards to achieve it. Two of the standard are healthy indoor air quality and also the material composite of the product. Some resilient flooring products in Singapore may not be certified eco friendly mainly because of their material composite. Many of these resilient flooring products may have seemingly ‘eco friendly certifications’, however if the home owner can take a closer look, the resilient flooring products suppliers who got their ‘eco friendly certifications’ are not because of the material composite of the products but because the manufacturing process of the products was done in an environmentally fashion.

2. Waterproof

Eco resilient flooring is good for kitchen because of its waterproof and easy-to-wash properties. (ERF – Cool Cement Design)

Eco resilient flooring (ERF) is also a waterproof flooring hence making it highly recommended for areas such as the kitchen, entrances near the bathrooms or the sanitary area. If your home ‘chef’ does a lot of cooking at home, you also need not worry as the waterproof properties of Eco Resilient Flooring (ERF) make it easy to clean and wash. Its waterproof properties therefore make it a strong substitute to conventional wood flooring and laminate flooring.

3. Highly Slip Resistant

Eco Resilient Flooring (ERF) – Dark Grey Oak Design

Eco resilient flooring (ERF) is also highly slip resistant. Therefore, such flooring helps to enhance safety at home by reducing the probability of slipping accidents. This is so important especially if your home has kids running around or elderly parents.

4. Impact Resistant

Due to its versatility and safety features, you can also make a platform with eco resilient flooring. (ERF – Thai Teak Design)

Being impact resistant means the flooring adds a ‘cushion effect’ on the fall impact when there is a slipping accident. Hence, with its high slip resistant properties plus this high impact resistant properties, it adds safety assurance to families with children and the elderly.

5. Scratch Resistant

Eco Resilient Flooring is a pet friendly flooring due to its scratch resistant and eco friendly feature.

Eco resilient flooring (ERF) has a highly scratch resistant 0.5 mm wear layer and a coating (turf shield) which enhances the lifespan of the flooring through wear and tear. Its high scratch resistance make it recommended for family with pets (‘Purrfect!’) or even high traffic commercial areas such as retail shops and restaurants.

6. Stain Resistant

Oil Stains? Don’t worry about it as Eco resilient flooring (ERF) is stain resistant!

Too much cooking? Afraid the oil stains may be hard to wash thus making your eco resilient flooring sticky? Have no worries about that as Eco Resilient Flooring (ERF) is stain resistant. The oil stains can be easily removed. Furthermore, ERF is waterproof such that all you need is to just wash it with soap and water, the flooring will be spick and span in no time!

7. Termite Proof

Eco Resilient Flooring – Thai Teak Design

Eco resilient flooring (ERF) is termite proof. This is because its material is not edible or does not look ‘delicious’ to the termites. Hence, such flooring is also recommended for landed homes in areas near forestation with a relatively higher level of humidity, or ground level commercial properties.

8. Lifetime Warranty (Residential)

Eco Resilient Flooring (ERF) ~ Oak Floss Design

With the above 7 properties in place, manufacturers of eco resilient flooring (ERF) are therefore able to place a lifetime warranty on its products so long the flooring is installed correctly by experienced flooring installers. This lifetime warranty will therefore give home owners a ‘peace of mind’.

ECOCLICK+ vs Clickable Resilient Flooring

This flooring is created as a strong and affordable flooring option to clickable resilient flooring with close properties such as 5mm thickness, waterproof and non-glue installation. The one difference is that its wear layer is slightly less than that of a quality clickable resilient flooring; in other words, it is relatively less scratch resistant but durable enough to last long.

As there are a number of green certification labels for products today. It is important for the consumers to understand the difference or similarities between the common ones.

Singapore Green Label is considered one of the most stringent certifications compared to most in the market. It looks into various aspects of the products. For example, the material used to made the products has to be certified whether they are safe for the environment and health. Companies that are able to produce and declare a detailed test report on the materials use in the manufacturing process will then be qualified to pass this round. That means if the companies are not able to produce a detailed report of the material, will fail to obtain the accreditation no matter how long they tried to apply for it. And then, the green label also touches on the manufacturing process impact on environment and the use of product and its impact on environment. Another important factor that Singapore Green Label touches on will be the indoor air quality. Test report(s) will be needed to show that the product will not produce dangerous amount of fumes when burned or in status quo. Moreover, whether or not, the product has zero or a safe level of formaldehyde emission rating. These will be able to ensure better indoor air quality for the product users and families.

It is important for consumers to learn about other products that may also have some form of green certification. Some of it may not be about the product material, in which this one is a very crucial aspect. Some green certification talks more about the manufacturing process and its impact on health and environment only. For example, the way the product is manufactured helps to save water, electricity and less pollution to the environment, will also likely to obtain a certain green certification except for the most stringent type of certifications. Or another example is that the product is able to be recycled after use, can also obtain a certain less stringent green certification.

Pets are a joy to have, but they can be a floor’s worst enemy. From scratching smooth surfaces with their nails to relieving themselves whenever and wherever they please, pets really can do damage to your floors.

Living with a dog, cat, rabbit or bird does not necessarily mean having stained, soiled or scratched up floors. In fact, there are flooring that is suitable for households with pets. Whether your pet is an active youth or contented senior, your home’s floor should always be friendly for any animal of any age.

If you happen to be a pet owner who is currently re-modelling your living space or getting a brand new HDB flat or apartment, you are in luck. Cannot decide on the type of flooring for your living space? How about opting for eco resilient flooring?

Here are eight reasons why you, as a pet owner, should consider eco resilient flooring.

#1. It is affordable

Eco resilient flooring is considerably affordable. Price also includes installation – a service that is typically charged separately, depending on the scope of the job.

#2. It does not contain chemicals…

The name itself says it all: flooring made from natural materials, hence it is free of chemicals and safe for pets (and very young children). There is only a few clickable resilient flooring in Asia which are certified eco friendly. Therefore, home owners should look for resilient flooring with the Singapore Green Label certification. It is often misunderstood that flooring that are certified eco friendly is made up of recycled material, it is not the case as the importance of being certified eco friendly is in its material which has to be safe and friendly to the environment.

#3. And it is odourless

If you are concerned that your living space will have a certain odour, eco resilient flooring is a good choice. Made from eco-friendly materials, you do not have to worry about odd and or funny-smelling odours coming from the ground.

#4. It has a non-slip surface

For those who are skittish about their pets flopping on their stomachs, sliding, tripping or stumbling over themselves especially after cleaning the floor, don’t worry. Quality eco resilient flooring is designed to be slip-resistant, there is no chance your pets will skid across the hallway like a professional race car driver attempting a dangerous manoeuvre.

#5. You can “scratch-proof” your flooring

If you have big dogs and or cats, you need to invest in flooring that is scratch-resistant so it can stand up to heavy foot traffic and paws with sharp claws. Like laminate flooring, eco resilient flooring is both scratch-resistant and able to stand up to heavy foot traffic. And if you are concerned about claws on the ground, you can add a layer of wax or oil finish to discourage your pets from using their claws when walking.

#6. It has anti-microbial properties

Eco resilient flooring is treated with colloidal silver, a type of compound that kills germs and other harmful bacteria that can otherwise do damage to our bodies.

But that does not mean you can leave your dog, cat, rabbit and or bird’s pee or poop on the floor. Like any harmful substance, animal urine and droppings can leave you or your family members very sick – you would not want to leave those unpleasant things on your floor for hours.

#7. It does not hurt the environment

Anything that is labelled ‘environmentally friendly’ or begins with the word ‘eco’ does little harm to the environment. If you are an environmentally conscious pet owner who strongly believe in recycling, you will like eco resilient flooring. Best of all, the floor boards can be recycled after years of use, thus helping the earth in its quest to reduce and gradually cut waste pollution and preserve nature and mankind.

#8. It is termite-proof

As both a pet owner and homeowner, the last thing you want to deal with after weeks and or months of installing your new flooring is termite infestation. Good quality eco resilient flooring is termite-proof, you do not have to worry about sneaky termites and other wood-burrowing creepy crawlies from chewing your floor.

You also do not have to worry about creepy crawlies attacking your pets and making them ill. Otherwise you might risk incurring expensive veterinary bills.

So there you have, the 8 reason why good quality eco resilient flooring are recommended for pet owners!
